Buffet aperitifs

What if we dined on aperitifs?

Buffet aperitifs. A fashion? Yes, but they are a way of life, too. Countless chefs, bars and guest houses have already converted. That’s no surprise: they are easy, good, relaxed and friendly.

Just because we live life in the fast lane and don’t have time to prepare big meals, this doesn’t mean we don’t want to see our friends or families. For that matter, a study showed that 98 % of French people consider aperitifs to be an important time for interaction and generosity. And when it comes to aperitifs, the French know what they are talking about!

Buffet aperitifs enable everyone to eat as they please, without having to explain a particular taste or diet. They do not take long to prepare. They are easier for guests and for hosts. They can be improvised. They can be organised in just a few clicks on social media. And above all, they give us a chance to recreate real social links in an increasingly virtual world.

But this desire for simplicity, this wish to gather around a (coffee) table to nibble toast, vegetables, all sorts of canapés and amuse-bouches does not mean that we don’t want to eat things that are inventive, brimming with flavour and healthy.

Big dishes in small ones

Ready in no time, but above all good! This is what it’s all about. Caterers and even pastry cooks have caught on. These days, they offer small portions, each more creative than the last. Perfect for laying a table with amuse-bouches that will really impress. And for ‘home-made’ enthusiasts, you simply have to type the letters ‘aperi…’ in the Internet to immediately bring up thousands of recipes and tips for ‘successful buffet aperitifs’.

The olive, queen of the aperitif

Which came first, the olive or the aperitif? Opinions differ, but everyone one agrees when it comes to tasting. Plain, with spices, with garlic, stuffed, on brochettes, in tapenade… olives are as generous as their native South, from where they bring us sunshine, taste and benefits. Père Olive and its unique variety of quality olives have no argument here!
